Hi Dan,

Great to hear you made the switch without any hickups.

I'm migrating a client's blog from Posterous and so far I have one problem: URL not found on blog posts.

I did as you suggest and mimicked the Posterou's url structure but I'm still getting the error.

Do you have any idea what else could it be?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Very few people wait so long to make a purchase. So what you're describing really is a tiny fraction of the market, and a segment no marketer would actually care about.

There is a lot of greenfield opportunity using data science and statistics to explain business metrics cross-channel. Heck, if you can explain impulse purchases (a significantly larger portion of the market btw), you can make a lot of money in attribution.

The problem was not being able to sign into Posterous...stays down about half the time. No problem on the WP end.

I'm working out the wordpress.com option right now. it allows you to import the xml file you downloaded from Posterous. I'll update when I can confirm if it works.

It would be nice if Google actually used to resources freed up by dumping non-paying users to improve their customer service of paying users, but that remains to be seen. The reasons Google gives for making changes seem more PR than genuine.

Hi Pablo,
Although 301s are permanent redirects, sometimes they need to be removed. For instance, I initially set up DanThornton.net to point to the About page on this site as I didn't need a personal website, but wanted the domain name etc.

Now a few years later, I wanted to use it for a personal website, so removed the redirect.

I agree that 307 or 302s should always be used for temporary redirection. What I'm talking about here are 301s which have existed for months/years and then need to be changed....

I know that browsers always cache 301s, but it seems like forcing a refresh works with Chrome etc, but not with Firefox. You can get extensions to remove specific urls from your cache, but I've already got more than enough extensions running in FF at this point!

Hey Dan. FYI 301 is a permanent redirect, so they shouldn't be removed. All browsers will cache 301s because that's what the HTTP standard dictates. If you need to change your 301s, you should be using 307s.

Dan, we are always looking forward to learn something new (or old) from you, that is all good stuff (like this video), so why not in the form of newsletter?
Although, I noticed that some of others who were using newsletters stopped with it as (how they explained) "it was too time consuming" for them.

Sorry for not replying sooner. The reference to donations was more in terms of supporting the development of Jigoshop itself, which is one route being considered at the time...

If you're looking to take donations yourself, I don't think a specific extension has been released to solve that quite yet, but obviously either Paypal payments, or something like Flattr would work with Jigoshop - you could embed the payment links for variable donations.

I Just read your article, it's really good and I have been using Jigoshop for a while now. However you mention that Jigoshop supports donations, I have had a look and can't find a donation extension anywhere. Could you perhaps guide me in the right direction?
